Cancer is the #2 disease that results in death. Heart disease is still #1.
According to my recent health research, experts say that almost 85% of all cancers are due to environmental causes as opposed to genetic tendencies. I looked to see what was meant by environmental causes and found that it includes the water we drink, the food we eat, the air we breath, and the products we use in and on our bodies. It is frightening that even with the war on cancer, declared in 1972, that the latest statistics point out that 1 in every 3 of us will develop cancer sometime in our lives. In 1987, approximately 900,000 cases of cancer were reported with about 450,000 resulting U.S. deaths. This same year, in comparison, only 33,000 cases of AIDS was reported with a projection of 270,000 cases by 1991. (Stats from The Politics of Cancer Revisted by Samuel S. Epstein, M.D.)
